The timeless Scandinavian design chairs through centuries
Scandinavian design emerged back in the early 20th century when a list of talented designers produced products of household items, furniture and even industrial pieces within the specific genre of what can be summarized as being minimal, simple and functional. It all started with designers from Denmark and Sweden. The designs they created became classic within a few decades and are still considered masterpieces of the Scandinavian design. Some of the big names and their creations are:
- Arne Jacobsen (Denmark 1902-1971) – Egg Chair and Swan Chair
- Finn Juhl (Denmark 1912-1989) – The Chieftains Chair
- Børge Mogensen (Denmark 1914-1972) – The Spanish Chair
- Greta Grossman (Sweden 1906-1999) – The Grasshopper Lamp
- Hans Wegner (Denmark 1914-2007) – Flag Halyard Chair
- Poul Henningsen (Denmark 1894-1967) – The Artichoke Lamp
The list goes on, however, the main point remains the same – these Nordic designs are internationally recognized and are still well sold among households and institutions. After the Second World War, the designers used modern industrial technologies and moulded the base of the designs on the concept of simplicity. The Scandinavian design fits in so many different environments that it has become a timeless hit for homes, public lounges, working places, schools and universities. Plycollection firmly believes the approach of the Scandinavian design and continues to support the perception of the roughly hundred years old wave of this European design. The Scandinavian style chair will never be out of style and the PH lamp will always be considered a smart lamp design.
